How to Upload and Activate a Plugin Zip File in WordPress

In my previous post, I showed you how to search for, and install plugins from the official plugin repository. In this post, I’ll show you how to upload and activate a plugin .zip file.

Why You Might Need to Upload a Plugin Zip File

When you purchase a premium plugin (or theme), you’re likely purchasing from the plugin developer’s own website (like or from a marketplace like CodeCanyon.

After purchasing, you then download the plugin, which is a .zip file.
